first introduction( first draft)

To what extend are we influenced by media images?
It is generally agreed that media images are becoming an important and serious aspect of today's life .thousands of them are found every where and they are available to everybody. People absorb media images from television, magazines, internet, and newspaper or even on billboards and video games. Undoubtedly, media images are powerful because they affect our expectations, attitudes or even our social convention moreover, they have narrowed our notions since people use media frequently.(Sam Femanio and marck Nickerson, media &values magazine ,1999).thereby, what need to be awarded is that the most of our decisions, beliefs, and values are based on what we know for a fact and how we have put our trust on the mass media. However, we should know how media and its images really work. It is often argued that the mass media and its images have had negative on our life both in terms of the mentally and physically and also there has been a little discussion about whether they should be controlled or not. However, this essay will examine the influence of media images on society and it will be considered how it influences our decisions.

Evaluate my first Seminar

I try to evaluate my self how well did my first seminar and I am going to write some notes in a nut shell about it:

Actually I wasn’t bad in first seminar but I think it could be better, I will need more improvement in some areas for instance, I hadn’t done enough research and preparation in addition, I should practise more about my languages because sometimes I felt it wasn’t accurate for other students in my group.
One of my good points was I listened to other students well when they were talking about specific subject and didn’t interrupt them too much! And also should be indicated that I had prepared enough phrases and expressions which some of them were formal and some of them were more informal. I argued my opinion clearly and respectably but it would be better if I spoke more during the seminar.
In during the seminar I tried to give some research and evidence to my group which could support my opinions and ideas.
For next seminar I am trying to improve my weak points and use and support more my strong points.

In addition, I have found new friends who all of them are so lovely.

At the moment I am a little bit tired because I have been living in London more than 8 month without any holiday and I think it would be helpful if I took a rest for a couple of days without thinking about English, polymer department ,London ,costs, job, and even lovely self study but unfortunately it is impossible :(

First Seminar

Today’s as a group we discussed about the media in different part, now I would like to write some of my ideas which I found out from discussion.

first of all one of interesting subject which I found out was viewing TV in Japan has decreased in last 10 years because all Japanese people prefer to use internet and playing games instead of sitting in front of TV. However, they are thinking watching TV waste their times.

other subject was about all children in china are really interested to watch cartoon especially frictions cartoon which could be in some way has negative effect in their life because the majority of them are trying to follow the hero and first roll of character .

one of the subject which we disagreed about it was about the main purpose of TV, we had different ideas about that two Chinese guys strongly believed that selling and money is the main purpose for all producers to show the program on TV whereas, others members believed that it should be mix of entertainment and education in equal balance .

all of us agreed that a child has limited view of the world .if the child doesn’t enough knowledge he/she is forced to choose by own his/her favourite program and obviously ,they cant recognize which one is good and bad one the other hand, movies shouldn’t be censored for young people because they are old enough to watch every things
.
the last subjects which I remembered was about developing technology in the next twenty years .all agreed that in the couple of next years we will see new technology in the world and also we agreed that watching TV is not useful for health because while they watch something on tv usually they eat unhealthy food.

TV and my ideas

Some of my ideas about:
Negative effects of television:
1: waste a lot of your time
2: I believe that TV is the reason for so many people to be out shape. They eat unhealthy food and don’t take the time to exercise afterwards. (Some food which can be eaten while watching TV: candy bars, potato chips, and all kind of stuff!!!)
3: children who watch TV hear coarse (rude) language and see violence, crime, use of drug and sex
4: many programs are not educational at all; most are frictional cartoons or movies which don’t teach you any thing
5: young people watch things on TV and they think they are okay when they are not
6: A child has limited view of the world and is dependent on his/her parents for instructions/knowledge and explanation .if the child doesn’t enough instruction or knowledge then he/she is forced to choose by his/her self what is seen on television as either good or bad
Positive effect of television:
1: TV has a lot of positive effects and influences on our society ,it gives us useful information, various form of education, entertainment which are all a part of the positive effects that TV has on our society
2: these type of things (sexual activity, drug, violence) happen every day .if young teenager do not watch them in a movie they will simply see them in the world around them. Only they should be aware of their surrounding and the world they live in.
Censorship:
Movies should not be censored for teenagers because they are old enough to see every thing
Reality television:
1: reality TV is a genre of television programming which present and show dramatic or humorous situations
2: ordinary people are playing in these kind of programs instead of professional actors
3: the viewers has no absolutely control over the images television and all images are controlled by the sender in addition, images just come, one after next
4 :in my opinion, these programs are suitable for some ones who are interested in human intraction

What is media literacy?

http://video.google.co.uk/videosearch?q=media+literacy+with+transcript&hl=en&sitesearch=#q=media%20literacy%20&hl=en

When I was reading my book, I found a word which was new for me and I hadn’t any idea about it. Instead of using dictionary to find out its definition I watched this clip and I have completely found out its meaning .it was media literacy, what is media literacy???
Some important points which I have understood:
1-media literacy is the ability to analyze, use and evaluate the media in positive way
2-media literacy education started in England in 1929
3-media literacy provides tools to help people critically analyze message to detect propaganda (is information, often inaccurate information, which a political organization publishes), censorship in news
4-in 1990 a world conference on media literacy was held in Ontario where over 500 educators from around world converged to discuss the need for media literacy and plan to reinvent critical thought as it applied to the media.
……
After watching this video I could understand the meaning of media literacy .I am going to choose some of this point and talk about them in seminar day.

New Technologies

I read this article .this article is about future of TV or new technologies .it was very interesting for me because I have found out new things which will happen in during this year or perhaps 2 or 3 years later in UK. For example all analogues TV will be switched off and all people will use digital TV in future. Other example is there will be new technology which is called HDTV (high definition television) HDTV. it is a new format for watching programs, and you can watch sharper, clearer with brighter pictures and better sound which is pretty amazing. Although this article was published on November 2006, There are others example of new technology which each of them have been interesting for me and will be seen very soon. I am going to say about them in friday`s seminar.

Some new words:
Squeeze:
if you squeeze something, you press it firmly, usually with your hands.
Open up: if something opens up opportunities or possibilities, or if they open up, they are created.

Research Report (draft)

Different ideas about marriage and children depending on their culture/nationality
P.Paykarestan,London Metropolitan University

Introduction

Marriage grew in popularity between 2002 and 2004, but fell by 9% in 2005 in England and Wales because people`s attitude had changed about cohabitation and they prefered to live out of wedlock instead of long-term living (Claire Truscott, guardian March 2008). Although these days living together is acceptable and the majority of people believe that marriage is a great gift, 60 per cent or probably more of cohabiting couples still get married after a few years. (BBC website,July 2008).

However, even though many researchers have considered, there has been very little research reported on the living couples out of wedlock,so in this research is tried to publicize more ideas about this subject as many as possible.

Aims

The purpose of the present research is to investigate what different ideas international student have about marriage and living with someone out of wedlock depending on their nationality and culture, moreover their beliefs about choosing their partner

Method
The Sample

The research sampled 31 students who all of them have been studying pre-sessional English academic at London metropolitan university. They were chosen in different range of ages, Genders and countries.

Data collection

The data was collected with a questionnaire which comprised 9 questions .the questionnaire asked a variety of questions, including attitudes toward marriage and living out of wedlock, having child out of wed lock and last question was about the most important thing which some people think make for successful marriage.

Findings

Living together before the marriage:
In our questionnaire respondents were asked to specify the effect of living together before the marriage for long-term on society, just over a quarter(28%) expressed it is acceptable thing and has positive effects on society, less than a quarter (23%)expressed,this is not satisfactory and has negative effect on society and nearly half (49%) expressed it makes no difference. as it is apparent, in this subject with a little bit difference of opinion students agree with living together before marriage which is interesting because the majority of respondents have lived freely in their countries without limitations religious which exist in some religions such as Islam despite this, they didn’t agree with living together before marriage.

Marrying people at older ages for the first time (e.g .more than 45)
More than 42% of respondents agree with marrying people at older ages, and nearly a third disagree

Having child
One of the most surprising finding which was found out is that the majority of students (80%) want to have more than 2 children after getting married, whilst, just less than 10% prefer to have no child or at least have one child. On one hand, this is interesting for someone’s who delight in after having children. On the other hand, this amount in wide range would cause a lot of trouble for governments or perhaps for families.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR CHOOSING A PARTNER
the research was demonstrated that more than (70%) of respondents believe that having a good personality and faithfulness is the most important thing to choose a partner .this amount shows personality is the main purpose among students to choose a partner in addition, this attitude is same in all cultures.
Having higher education with nearly(20%) is ranked in second in importance,While, less than (10% )of respondents say appearance and adequate income are important things.

My Favourite Song

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sv2felvaBl0&feature=related
And so it is Just like you said it would be Life goes easy on me Most of the time And so it is The shorter story No love, no glory No hero in her sky
I can't take my eyes off of you I can't take my eyes off you I can't take my eyes off you I can't take my eyes off you I can't take my eyes off you I can't take my eyes...
And so it is Just like you said it should be We'll both forget the breeze Most of the time And so it is The colder water The blower's daughter The pupil in denial
I can't take my eyes off of you I can't take my eyes off you I can't take my eyes off of you I can't take my eyes off you I can't take my eyes off you I can't take my eyes...
Did I say that I loathe you? Did I say that I want to Leave it all behind?
I can't take my mind off of you I can't take my mind off you I can't take my mind off of you I can't take my mind off you I can't take my mind off you I can't take my mind... My mind...my mind... 'Til I find somebody new
